Making the world a healthier, happier place
The first step in garnering health for ourselves is relieving our central nervous system of interference so our bodies can function as designed. This is accomplished through gentle, yet effective, adjustments to the joints of the upper cervical spine.
What is upper cervical Chiropractic Care?
What is upper cervical Chiropractic Care?
Upper cervical care starts by checking the upper neck for subluxations- a misaligned joint that is directly inhibiting function of the nervous system. A subluxation at this level of the spine can be caused by a number of things. For example, blows or trauma to the head/neck, consistent computer work or cell phone use, sports injuries, car accidents, etc. Some causes aren't as physically traumatic such as repeated stress at home/work or grief.
Upper cervical care focuses on maintaining proper alignment in the upper neck, or cervical spine, to relieve the central nervous system of any interference. As an UC chiropractor, Dr. Hill primarily works with the atlas (C1) and the axis (C2) vertebrae. The junction where the head meets the neck and houses the brainstem- the root of all life and communication throughout the body.
What if I have an upper cervical subluxation?
Once it has been determined a subluxation exists in the upper cervical spine, a specific set of x-rays are taken. These images are meticulously analyzed and measured according to the protocol laid out by the technique practiced called Orthospinology. With a specific, individualized set of numbers, patients are adjusted gently and safely with an instrument. Adjustments are delivered without guess work or pain.
It is important to note that while this is where care starts, your care is not limited to the upper neck. Dr. Hill recognizes that subluxations can occur in any joint in the body, and she is able to correct those, as well, utilizing the Activator Methods protocol.

I have always wanted to be a doctor- though it took me a long time to figure out what type. As a kid, I figured out that the human body had the incredible ability to heal itself. From then on, I sought a career path that would allow me to work with this innate human ability, rather than against it. For a while, I thought becoming a medical doctor would allow me to do that.
I grew up in Goldsboro, North Carolina. After graduating high school as a homeschooler in 2011, I received a full academic scholarship to UNC-Greensboro where I studied biology with a concentration in pre-medicine. Soon after beginning college, I developed low back pain and leg weakness. It took a couple of years and a few doctors for me to learn that it was the result of a birth deformity in my low back, as well as minor injuries that accumulated over the years from falls, fender-benders, and the like.
I spent my four years of college desperately trying to maintain my ability to walk while working as a CNA and applying to medical schools. To make matters worse, I also began contracting 3-4 debilitating migraines a month. In my final semester of college while searching for doctors to shadow, I discovered chiropractic- a profession dedicated to amplifying the body’s natural ability to heal and maintain itself by removing interference from the nervous system. In July 2015, two months after graduating from UNC-G, I matriculated at Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Shortly after beginning classes, I discovered upper cervical chiropractic care. Because of upper cervical care, I no longer have low back pain, and I have regained the full use of my legs. In addition, my migraines are nonexistent.
I graduated in December 2018 as a Doctor of Chiropractic with certifications in Basic I and II Orthospinology technique, as well as Proficiency in Chiropractic Radiology. I have since completed the Advanced Graduate class and am a board certified Orthospinologist.
Many of us have accepted pain and loss of function. We’ve accepted that we’re hopeless- that life will always be like this. I certainly did. The simple truth is we’re not meant to live in pain or with loss of function. These are meant to be signs that something is wrong. For most of us, it is a spinal misalignment that is hindering our nervous system- and our body as a whole- from functioning properly. Before trying to cover up symptoms with pain medications or accepting your inability to function as your new “normal”, give upper cervical care a try. Remove interference from your nervous system, and let your body function and heal as intended.
WE're so excited to see how we can help you!
